Hi I’m Brian Curtis and I’m definitely “old skool”, so old in fact I just about remember writing on slates at school! In fact when it comes to media and anyone mentions “Caroline” I think of a pirate radio station rather than a “Strictly Come Dancing” celebrity!! My broadcasting aspirations started by “reading the news” in a pretend TV studio at the age of 10 in our garage. When I left school I worked for the BBC as cameraman/sound man, in the days when black and white was just becoming colour! Worked on big drama productions “Elizabeth R” with Glenda Jackson, “Separate Tables” (Leonard Rossiter) and “Loneliness of Long Distance Piano Player” (Ray Davies). Got so keen on what was happening in front of the camera left and trained to be a drama teacher! Taught in Croydon for 25 years, at the same time learning broadcasting skills at Radio Mayday Hospital Radio. Then worked professionally in radio at Premier Radio in London, as a Marketing Executive, Outside Broadcast Manager and then running short term radio stations in Manchester and Birmingham! Back to teaching, invited back to my old job as Head of Drama, for the last ten years. And now – retired to my most favourite place in the world – the Isle of Wight. Looking forward to new adventures on Vectis Radio!
The Thursday Electric Eclectic (TEE)
A weekly “eclectic” mixture of Soul, RnB, Motown and 60’s – 70’s music! With “hand crafted features” – “Two in a Row” – which is two different versions of the same song by two different groups or artists – as TV Burp’s Harry Hill would say “Same tune, two singers? Only one way to sort it out – fight”. The Motown Magic Moment is two tracks from the same year in the golden years of Motown – nostalgia and “Motown factoids”. Each week there will be the “You talking to me!” interview with Islanders, Celebrities or anyone with a good story to tell – could be you if you have an interesting quirky story to tell! Also radio’s only Kiss Cam! Listen in for more!
