The Vectis Radio 4Ps Training School is now a Registered Charity (Charity 1189607)
The award-winning Vectis Radio 4Ps Training School is a registered charity dedicated to supporting young people aged 11 to 19, including those with additional needs, by helping them build confidence and communication skills through hands-on radio training.
Launched in 2014 following a successful pilot in 2013, the 4Ps Training School was created by the Vectis Radio team as a community-driven initiative. The name reflects its four key areas of focus: Presenting, Production, Podcasting, and Promotion.
Initially established as a Community Interest Company (CIC) to broaden its funding opportunities, the training school transitioned to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in 2020. This change strengthened its long-term sustainability and opened up new avenues for fundraising and development. The charity is now governed by a dedicated board and powered entirely by volunteers who coordinate and deliver the programme.
Sessions take place at the Vectis Radio studios in Newport, combining training in both a recording space affectionately known as “the green room” and in a live broadcasting studio. Each session accommodates up to five students, allowing for personalised, supportive learning.
Over the years, the 4Ps Training School has made a lasting difference in the lives of hundreds of young Islanders and continues to be a vital part of Vectis Radio’s mission to empower the next generation of broadcasters and communicators.
David Parkinson, Trustee of the 4Ps Charity, said:
“This is a move we’ve been aiming for. Several funders have made it clear they only support registered charities, so becoming a CIO makes our fundraising efforts more viable and sustainable.”
