Robert 'Chip' Clark

I am Robert 'Chip' Clark and live in Arreton on the Isle of Wight and I have really struggled during the COVID-19 pandemic and found it really difficult during the first lockdown to adjust to not being able to go out and meet my friends or do all the voluntary work that I enjoyed including being at Vectis Radio. My family have helped and supported me throughout the last 12 months, but I felt I needed more help and support as well for my mental health.

I decided to call the Isle of Wight Council helpline number a few weeks ago and a really nice lady listened to me and guided me to a support helpline at Mountbatten, which led to me speaking to another nice lady from Aspire who told me she could arrange for a telephone befriender to call me once a week to see how I was doing. It has worked really well and I look forward to a weekly call with Malcolm.

I also wanted to learn more about how to be better with my voluntary radio presenting at Vectis Radio including radio production, promotion, presentation and podcasting and that’s why I enrolled on the 4Ps adult training course. I was hoping the course would help me set up music files, learn more about how programming works so that I can present my own Dance Music Show and also programme my own music for the playlists. I would also like to be able to edit and produce my own promotions for the show.

At the start of the course I was keen to learn more about what it takes to be a good DJ presenter and gain more skills, knowledge and confidence. During the course I received really good training and support from the Station Manager, Ian Mac, on how to do many more things that previously I was not sure how to do and this has enabled me to be more confident about my own abilities.

After completing the 12-week course, I am so much more confident now and ready to start a new dance music show on Saturday evenings. I have learnt more skills covering all the additional knowledge that I needed to know. I am grateful to have been chosen for the course and would recommend it to anyone that wanted to learn more about how to be a good DJ presenter on the radio.
