Vectis Radio Becomes a Teenager
Vectis Radio is celebrating 13 years on the air today. It was on this day back in 2010 that the station launched at The Quay Arts Centre in Newport. They launched with The Boys are back in town by Thin Lizzy with former Isle of Wight Radio presenters Ian Mac and Martyn ‘Bully’ Bull, Bully sadly passed away in 2016.
Back then it was just on internet only broadcaster and then in 2016 were given the opportunity to set up on FM, Vectis Launched on FM 104.6 in 2017
Ian Mac who started putting the station together with Steve Ray in 2009 recalls “Our whole station back then was squeezed into a cupboard around 8 feet by 9. The Journey since then has been an incredible one and I don’t really know how we got to where we are now because in 2015 we had less than £30 in the bank and the rent was due, 2 years later we were on FM and since then we have been honoured with the Queens award for voluntary service and received 25 nominations for community radio awards, four of them gold, six silvers. It’s an amazing story of a small group of determined people that wanted serve their community using radio”
