Kieren Thomson joined Vectis Radio in 2014, having come in to enquire about a sales role and being put behind the mic. Despite working in TV for a year prior, Ian gave him a chance like no other: hosting his own afternoon shows and eventually the jazz and blues show, Toe Tappin Sunday. His love of radio and inspiration born from Vectis led him to studying MA Radio Production at Bournemouth University, where he managed the experimental BIRSt Radio, winning the Kevin Greening Award for Innovation at the Student Radio Awards in his time there.

Since 2015, Kieren has hosted Vectis Radio’s weekly New Music Show. He’s curated over 400 episodes, featuring 200 Isle of Wight acts and over a thousand more beyond, and has played over 7,500 unique tracks in that time. He loves giving a platform to artists you never hear on any commercial FM radio to Vectis, giving airtime to local acts and has recently interviewed acts such as Peter Hook, Gang of Youths, Toyah Wilcox and Robert Fripp, Fyfe Dangerfield, Chong the Nomad, We Are Scientists and more. He also hosts a mini-feature in The New Music Podcast on Wednesday evenings.

In 2023, he took over the Monday and Friday Breakfast Shows: 3 hours a day of utter nonsense masquerading as professional radio. He acknowledges that the Friday Brain Fry quiz is questionable at best, but he’s trying. We think.

Outside of Vectis, Kieren is a cliche: he loves F1, his partner Jane, the music of Bruce Springsteen and The National, craft beer and pasta. He remains the only resident of Brading to ever win the Sandham Middle School Chess Championship.

The New Music Show can be heard every Sunday evening from 7 – 10pm.
The Monday and Friday Breakfast Shows start at 7am.
The New Music Podcast is available just after 6pm every Wednesday, only on Vectis Radio.
