The Isle of Wight Mardi Gras returns to Ryde on Saturday 4th July 2026 with this year’s spectacular theme: Folktastic Isle: Stories, Myths and Legends.

Supported by Arts Council England, this vibrant community celebration will transform the streets of Ryde into a moving festival of giant costumes, music, dance, puppetry, and storytelling inspired by Isle of Wight folklore and legends.

Created by 23 schools and community groups working alongside professional artists, the parade is the result of months of creativity, featuring sustainable handmade costumes, live performance, samba bands, and breathtaking large-scale creations by New Carnival.

The festivities begin at Simeon Street Recreation Ground with Mini Mardi Gras from 11am, packed with free family activities including craft workshops, storytelling, circus skills, face painting, music-making, and local food stalls. The main parade then takes to the streets of Ryde, travelling through Union Street and along the Esplanade before returning for a grand finale celebration.

Expect colour, energy, community spirit, and unforgettable visuals as Island myths and modern legends burst into life. Whether you’re visiting for the day or cheering from the roadside, IW Mardi Gras 2026 promises a joyful celebration of creativity for all ages.

Part of the IW Biosphere Festival and the National Year of Reading campaign.
