License Fee Donation

Vectis Radio has received a generous donation of 800 pounds from Shanklin Rotary Club to help cover this quarter’s broadcasting licence fee. The cheque was presented by James Harwood to Ian Mac from Vectis Radio, alongside some of our 4ps students from St George’s School Kirsten and Jack, and school supervisor Oliver. Vectis Radio is a not for profit community station that relies on local support to continue broadcasting across the Isle of Wight. The station has thanked Shanklin Rotary Club for its ongoing support and the valuable work it does within the local community

The Shanklin Rotary Club is a major Isle of Wight charity fundraising organization (founded 1927) that raises funds primarily to support local, national, and international causes. Their main activity is a large annual, multi-day charity sale (often raising over £25,000) alongside maintaining the "Wishing Well" in Shanklin Old Village. 

Key Activities and Projects

• Annual Charity Sale: The club holds a large-scale sale (e.g., at Sandown Airport or YMCA Winchester House) in January, featuring donated items like furniture, books, toys, and clothes to fund local projects.
• Charity Grants: They operate the Rotary Club of Shanklin Trust Fund, which provides grants to individuals and organizations, focusing on educational, disability, and community projects.
• Local Community Support: They raise funds for local groups, such as the Sandown-Shanklin Rugby Club and Shanklin Rowing Club, often receiving volunteer "muscle power" in return.
• Fundraising Initiatives: They maintain the Wishing Well in Shanklin Old Village and participate in the Purple-for-Polio crocus planting campaign.
• International Aid: A percentage of funds supports Rotary International's charity work and projects abroad, including links with clubs in France.

The club is known to operate in Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, and internationally, working closely with other local, community-focused volunteers.
