The Art of Metal

The Metals theme at The Art of Wonder explores the relationship between metal worked by human hands and the natural world. The artworks currently in the gallery range from delicate woven and crocheted copper and aluminium sculptures by Elizabeth Hodgson, some fused with glass and natural materials, through sycamore seeds and old man's beard embossed into aluminium and copper, garden-ready ironwork by blacksmith James Miller, Son of Fire, and the glories of rust framed in salvaged metal and celebrated on canvas by Ulrike Schmoranzer.
We also have a wonderful selection of metal-themed music including a rare copy of PiL's 1979 groundbreaking album Metal Box in its metal cannister designed by John Lydon and Dennis Morris and made by the Metal Box company.
We have magnets and metal activities for all ages, including a metal-themed town quiz trail and a metal wordsearch, and a table of the elements community jigsaw to do.
